In 2023, the IUCN SSC Parasite Specialist Group was founded to assess the conservation status of metazoan parasites of vertebrates and to advance conservation efforts for threatened parasite species. The Parasite Specialist Group is an international network of experts in the fields of parasitology, ecology, conservation, systematics, veterinary medicine, and more. The PSG already has members from every continent, and more are expected to join in the coming years. There are also opportunities for non-members to support assessments for particular parasite species.

This will be a 1.5 hour workshop to introduce participants to the process used to conduct an assessment for the IUCN Red List, including examples of parasites that have been accessed by the PSG. This will give participants the tools to either do assessments on their own, which would eventually be reviewed by the PSG, or to participate in assessments already being conducted by the PSG.

You must be registered for the 2025 ASP meeting itself to attend this workshop. Attendance is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
